A Life-Changing Experience at the Third Wave Conference

Third Wave is a leadership conference hosted by the Global NYI Office, and developed through the Global NYI Council as part of the leadership development strategy. Emerging youth leaders are gathered from across the globe. Each field NYI selects five participants from their districts to attend the conference. Sumayah Edoo, a member of the District NYI council and member of the Lowlands Nazarene House of Praise, shares her experience in attending Third Wave as part of the Caribbean English Field delegation.

Hello everyone! I’m Sumayah Edoo, and I had the incredible honor of representing the Trinidad and Tobago District at this year’s Third Wave Conference in Florida, USA. The conference, which took place from January 7th to 12th, was truly a transformative experience—one that has had a profound impact on my life.

At times, I didn’t even want to leave. The week was filled with inspiring moments that deepened my connection to God’s calling for me. It was during my time there that God revealed His plans for my life in a powerful way. Through the guidance of Dr. Sam Barber, one of His servants, I received a clear message: Stop running from my calling. This revelation set the tone for the remainder of the conference.

Throughout the week, I encountered countless signs and messages from the people I met—youth leaders from across the globe, including countries like France and Australia, as well as fellow leaders from the Caribbean. Every conversation and piece of advice I received subtly reinforced the same truth: When you return home, don’t run from your calling. It was an empowering, eye-opening experience that I will forever carry with me.

I had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who inspired me to pursue the best version of myself. The bonds we formed in Christ were beautiful, and we shared countless moments of joy and spiritual growth together.

From the leadership, self-discovery, and mentorship sessions to the priceless connections made, I have grown spiritually and learned so much from the Third Wave Conference. I’m now more excited than ever to return to my community and give my all to God in the NYI Department.
